About
I have had a great appreciation of Japanese culture for most of my life. In fourth grade, my teacher, Mrs. Robinson, if memory serves me, was teaching my class about Japan. This included bringing in an electric skillet and cooking Sukiyaki for the class. This culinary treat left an indelible and positive mark in my mind.
As part of the course work, we also wrote our own haiku on paper panels we had water-colored. I have mine up in my office:
In the spring flowers,
Pop out and begin to grow,
Around the hillside.
Many years later, I
had my first taste of sushi while in college. To this day, it is always a special meal to enjoy.
After watching the heart wrenching video of the horrible devastation of the Tsunami covering vast swaths of Japan after the immense earthquake, I wanted to do something to help. The idea popped into my head that people could get together for some sushi and raise money for aid and relief work at the same time. Following soon after was the phrase, "Sushi for Tsunami." I ran the idea by some people and the response was positive. Here's the result - Beta version so far.
In addition to showing solidarity with the Japanese people by consciously getting sushi and raising money, Sushi for Tsunami also provides information about legitimate charities where to donate money. Future projects may include a benefit contest for a the best Tsunami sushi roll.
More will follow on the Site, Twitter, and Blog in the days to come. Thanks for stopping by. Tell your friends and go get some sushi!
